Hospital Central Services Student Volunteer Scholarship

The HCS Student Volunteer Scholarship recognizes the outstanding student volunteer participation at Miller-Keystone Blood Center, by a graduating high school senior. It is a natural extension of the education commitment by Hospital Central Services, Inc. in recognition of the importance of student volunteerism to the health and welfare of the community.

Recipient of the scholarship must have completed a minimum of 135 hours of volunteer service to the Blood Center in no less than a cumulative two calendar year period. The student must be a member in good standing at his/her high school and must have maintained an overall 2.5 GPA. A member in good standing includes, but is not limited to, acceptable citizenship and attendance. The student must be recommended to receive this scholarship by the school principal or guidance office. The student will be attending an accredited post secondary educational program during the following school year.

The annual scholarship amount is $1,000. The number of scholarships awarded is determined by Hospital Central Services, Inc. Children of employees of Hospital Central Services, Inc. or its affiliates are ineligible.

Applications must be received no later than March 31.

Hospital Central Services Donor Recruitment Scholarship

The HCS Donor Recruitment Scholarship is designed to encourage and reward a high school blood donor chairperson for their efforts in stimulating interest and increasing the available blood supply within the seven Pennsylvania and New Jersey counties served Miller-Keystone Blood Center.

Recipient of the scholarship must have acted as chairperson for the high school's blood drives during the past school year. The student must also be a member in good standing at his/her high school and must have maintained an overall 2.5 GPA. A member in good standing includes, but is not limited to, acceptable citizenship and attendance. The student must be recommended to receive this scholarship by the school principal, faculty advisor or guidance office. The student will be attending an accredited post secondary educational program during the following school year.

Awards are presented in three regional breakdowns: (1) Lehigh Valley/Upper Bucks/New Jersey, (2) Berks/Montgomery, and (3) Carbon/Schuylkill/Luzerne/Monroe. Four awards are presented for each region - one in the amount of $1,000, one in the amount of $500 and two in the amount of $250. Children of employees of Miller-Keystone Blood Center and its parent, Hospital Central Services, Inc., are not eligible.

Applications must be received by the Blood Center no later than April 30.

The awards will be announced in mid-May.

New Jersey Society of Blood Bank Professionals Scholarship Award

The NJFBBP Scholarship is designed to encourage and reward a high school blood donor chairperson for their efforts in stimulating interest and increasing the available blood supply in the state of New Jersey. Applicants must be a student in good standing at their participating high school. Any New Jersey high school junior or senior blood donor chairperson is eligible for this award.

Three $500 awards are presented each year. Applications must be received by the chairperson's community blood center by June 20, and forwarded to the blood center to the NJSBBP review committee by June 30.
