Forty years ago, I was hospitalized with pancreatitis after the birth of my third son. I was in St. Luke’s Hospital in Fountain Hill, PA for 2-1/2 months and very ill. After my third operation, I had internal bleeding. My room was filled with my surgeons, nurses, and other medical personnel. I heard them say I needed a transfusion, and I said I needed AB negative– they assured me that they knew! I received 8 units of blood which helped save my life–it was a miracle that I lived. Although I gave blood before that when I worked at Mack Trucks, I vowed to donate often when I was healthy and able. I am now at the 13 gallon level at Miller, and happy that I am able to pay my debt back.
