Community Connection Drops: February 2024

February 2024 E-Newsletter

Do you host multiple drives on a regular basis with us? If you do, consider signing folks up for your NEXT blood drive while they are at the current one. If your next drive is already on the calendar, we can provide you with a copy of the schedule that you can use to fill in their next appointment. Later, you can enter their appointments into the online schedule or send them to your account manager – but do this ASAP! Or give your donors a “Save the Date” card for your next blood drive, so they won’t forget. We can even create Save the Save sheets for you – just ask your MKBC account manager.

Remember – even if you only do one or two blood drives a year, it’s good to get the word out as soon as possible. If you have regular blood donors, you want to make sure they prepare to be eligible for your blood drive. Whole blood donors can donate every 56 days, so they need to be aware of your blood drive at least two months in advance.

Use your Coordinator Reward Points to reward yourself with something for your hard work. Or better yet, pick an item to use as an incentive giveaway for your donors at an upcoming blood drive! Simply log in to the Coordinator Portal and visit the Online Store. You will see how many points you have earned as a blood drive coordinator, and based on those points, you can place an order!

If you are not already doing so, end your drive with sending a personal “thank you” email to your donors, which includes the results of your blood drive! We find that donors are always interested in the bigger results… for example:

  • Registered donors: 30
  • Units collected: 25
  • Potential lives saved: 75

Don’t just put flyers up and assume people will sign up!  Posting the flyer in a window and on social media is important – especially if you can include a QR Code, but when it comes down to it, you have to ASK people to donate!  We can provide you with a list of your past donors so you can give them a call and offer to sign them up. Do you have help? If someone volunteers to help you with the blood drive, give them a list of donors to call. You can also do this by using our online Blood Drive Coordinator Portal! If you are not familiar with using this tool, contact your MKBC Account Manager for more information and assistance.

If you happen to have a gift certificate lying around, or someone is willing to donate a gift card… try to offer your donor pool an incentive for scheduling an appointment and showing up for their donation! We can include a note on your flyer stating “The names of presenting donors will be entered into a raffle to win __!” Another incentive that attracts attention is food! We can include a note that says “All presenting donors will receive a fresh-made chocolate chip cookie,” etc. If this interests you but you need some ideas, ask your account manager! They will be happy to brainstorm with you!

Did you know that we have a large database of active blood donors in our system? We do! If you are struggling to fill your mobile blood drive schedule, and you’ve exhausted all efforts to get sign-ups but still have some empty spots, ask about having a “text blast” done!  We can request a text blast to be sent out to past blood donors (if you have previously sponsored a mobile drive), as well as to blood donors in your surrounding zip code(s). Sometimes it can help get those last few empty spots filled! Ask your account manager for more info!
